NOTE: I'm really sorry for reposting this but I need you to read this, especially those who use Tabulas' templating function. Please read Roy Kim's plans with Tabulas and please voice out your opinions in his journal. Thank you.

Click here for Roy Kim's entry.

ATTENTION: The owner of tabulas has a plan to limit free account users to pre-made templates. This means NO MORE HTML TEMPLATING for most us.

This is not a hoax. I got it directly from Roy Kim’s journal.

I was supposed to write about Roy several days ago, but time didn’t permit me. Now I feel that I should have written about him long ago, when I still consider him a god. As a self-proclaimed designer, I can’t really help but feel bothered by this one plan among several others that Roy is more or less bound to do to Tabulas.

Ever since I discovered that Roy is just 20 or 21 years old, I was never bothered anymore by any inconvenience—resizing and degradation of the quality of images, down times, and others—that I experienced in Tabulas. Besides, most of us are using free accounts, and for something that is free, Tabulas is such a great catch. With no strings attached. If you check out other online journals, ads will swarm you. Tabulas has no ads.*

*But Roy, just recently, revealed that he has plans to put google ads on our journals in order to earn some money to pay for the maintenance of Tabulas, and of course, to earn some money for himself too.

Imagine—there exists a man, on the other side of the world, who gives us a space to voice out our thoughts and feelings in this tangled web, and allows us to meet great people online, using money from his own pocket. And this guy, who’s even younger than many tabulas users, just recently went to Korea to educate people! How can you not love this guy?

I’ve been reading his entries for quite a long time now, and it’s quite humanizing to discover that the person who allows me to communicate with you—the person who empowers us—is also a human like us who experiences pretty much the same emotions that we feel. That this website is not only ran by a computer, but also by a person who has a great vision for the future of the web.

Roy is less than 5 years older than me, but I haven’t even accomplished half of what he has already done. Through the 3 websites that he owns and manages, he has affected thousands of people all over the world. Tabulas alone has changed our lives in one way or another.

If only I could pay for my Tabulas account, I would.

Think about this 20 year old guy, who runs this website with his own money, every time you encounter a problem with your free tabulas account.

Visit his journal here.

And please voice out your opinions regarding his plans with tabulas in this entry.

Yep. We will never incorporate advertisements that pop-up stuff or install crap... we\'ll try to keep the ads relevant and simple (google ads).

although the ads implemented in the control panels might be graphical.. the ones on the user ends should be pretty light.

Well, we don\'t have the right to complain. Wala tayong, say, <i>return</i> sa kanya, at binabayaran niya yung hosting out of his own pockets.

Basta kung ano ang decision niya - siguro we should support him na lang. In a way, he\'s our Papa. nyahahaha! *shrug*

pero kailangan pa rin tayong makipag-deal sa kanya, after all, we support his site naman so we should have a say on his plans.

marami kaming mahihirap papa levi, hindi katulad mo kumikita na, lolz

Well, I dunno. Yung term na <i>we support his site</i> doesn\'t fit very much - since wala naman tayong naibibigay. In a way, para tayong linta na kumakain ng bandwidth niya.

Suggestions are okay. Pero we shouldn\'t be complaining. There\'s something wrong with complaining for something you recieve for free. Think of it this way; Roy takes all the time and money to create a free service, tapos may angal pa tayo when he changes stuff. Ang sagwa naman, di ba. Gets mo, kuya Marv?

And isa pa, he\'s making templates for us. Taking the time to make templates for us. Nang wala naman tayong binabayad, o ads na nakalagay, di ba? Roy has a life as well; pero he\'s doing this for a bunch of people he doesn\'t even know personally - for free.

I figure that\'s enough.

He can drop us, or leave us in the cold kapag trip niya. I can even go as far as saying na it\'s his right. I\'d prefer if he didn\'t, pero he\'s entitled to that.

And I\'m not paying for my account, so yung current status ko shouldn\'t be an issue, nor dragged into it. Di ba? ;)

Ingats po kuya Marv! Heehee.

ako rin. kung kaya ko lang bumili nung paid account, gagawin ko. pero talaga bang tatangalin na yung pre-made templates? kakatakut naman kung mangyari yun
Comment posted on July 4th, 2004 at 06:25 PM
yung function na templating lang ang tatanggalin, so that means hindi na tayo pwede gumawa ng sarili unless we get paid accounts. yung premade, yun lang ang matitira sa tin, at may 6-7 na bagong premade templates na ipo-provide si roy

I read his journal too. Actually I\'m kinda inspired, not too mention *envious* that he thought of tabulas first. hahaha!

Go Roy! We !

Hey, thanks for the levelled criticism; this is exactly the type of interest I want to generate to see what the <strong>reasoned</strong> voice of the Tabulas community thinks.

I\'m leaning towards moving away from AdSense advertisements in Tabulas, and more to a control-panel advertisement system (forced advertisement viewing upon posting)... but I\'m not entirely sure yet.

I\'ll be sure to monitor your blog for some more convo 8)

i dislike ads, pero para sa \'kin mas ok na \'yun kaysa i-suppress ako sa pag-express ng aking creativity..

oo nga eh, pero sinagot na ni roy yang request na yan dun sa entry nya..
Comment posted on July 2nd, 2004 at 05:50 AM
sana naman wag ng ituloy ang single template for all free users...
Comment posted on July 4th, 2004 at 06:21 PM
levin, hindi single template for all users. aalisin lang ang templating function in the future sa mga gumagamit ng free accounts, so ang maiiwan sa atin ay yung premade templates. may ginagawang 6-7 na bago si roy
